Criteria for InclusionPertinenceThe subject matter must be of interest to rock gardeners.HiddenThe resource should not be reachable by a web spider (or at the very least it must be more productive when treated as a database). If the search engines can index it, then AltaVista et alia are adequate.SizeThe resource must be substantial. Nearly all of those listed have entries in the thousands.DuplicationThe data must not substantially duplicate a resource already listed. Many Cooperative Extension sites (in the USA) duplicate the Ohio State University Plant Facts. Some US state checklists duplicate the information in the National Plants Database of the USDA. However, should you find a resource disjunct to one listed here, please let me know.HerbariaGenerally omitted here. Though there are many herbaria on the net some with just a home page, others with all their holdings most of them list only the fact of species existence and perhaps the site of collection. Sometimes this is just what we need. In that case look at the extensive list of herbaria at the Internet Directory of Botany's Botanical Museums, Herbaria, Natural History Museums.Do you have a candidate? Write to me, Tom Stuart. |
